While your website is aimed at delivering information about your company and driving sales, social media platforms are more about engaging with your audience with informal, explanatory pieces which establish your business as an expert in your industry, and are interesting enough, that people will share them with friends.
Getting your brand active on social media expands your reach. Remember that search engines index content from social media too. This helps you dominate the search results on page one when customers search for your brand.
